The Better Book Blueprint:
The power is in the plan
If you're looking to write your best book, here's where you start.
THE BETTER BOOK BLUEPRINT STARTS IN
If you want to write any book, you’ll need to pick up a pen (or a keyboard!).
But if you want to write your best book, then you’ll need to start with a clear strategy, and a transformational structure.
That’s where the Better Book Blueprint comes in.
Across two half-day workshops, we’ll help you get clarity on the vision, audience, context, and core argument for your book, as well how your expertise can best be captured and the journey you’ll take your reader on throughout the book.
All so that you're armed and ready to set off on your journey to becoming a published author.
Meet your facilitators
For over a decade, Intelligent Ink have been working with visionary, purpose-driven thought leaders who are struggling to extend their impact beyond their current clients. They're missing out on the reputation, credibility, and opportunities that being an author brings.
The Intelligent Ink team have helped create numerous industry-leading publications, including Beyond Burnout by Suzi McAlpine, She’ll Be Right (Not!) by Daniel Watson, Wealth Plan by Andrew Nicol & Ed McKnight, Think Like a Coach by Jude Sclater, Unleash Your Awesome by Daria Williamson, #WorkSchoolHours by Dr Ellen Joan Ford, and Re-food by Emily King.
We bring together deep expertise in both books and thought leadership with our curated community of like-hearted and clever thought leaders. Clients working with us can expect supportive challenge that will get you to genuine excellence with your book, as well as the confidence that comes from a
journey rich in personal and professional growth.
DAY ONE: Strategy
Books are a powerful vehicle to drive change. But your book won’t drive change if you’re not clear on what it’s driving towards. That’s why it’s so important that you start your book journey with a clear strategy for how you’ll achieve bigger impact for you, your business, and your readers.
Get clear on your vision and goals for the book
Define your target reader
Consider the context of other books
Think about the style your book will take
Consider publishing options
DAY TWO: Structure
When people think about planning their book, they often organise their thinking the way they do their computer files; in a way that makes sense only to them. But for your book to be transformational, it needs to take your reader on a journey from where they are – to where they could be.
Capture all your IP and brainstorm what will go in your book
Create a clear structure for your book’s content that maps the journey that you want your reader to go on
Make an action plan that will enable you to start writing with clarity and confidence
Plus, you’ll be able to book a one-on-one polish session with one of our strategic book coaches to finalise your plan and get started.
Don't take it from us – here's what others have to say
“Writing a book is so big, and sometimes you just need others around to break it down, to help reflect things back to you. If I had to go it alone, it would have taken ten times longer.
Dr Bex Bell, Author of Inner Critic to Inner Coach
“It has been a dream working with Verity and Christina. From knowing I wanted to write a book, but not knowing what to write about, to having a step-by-step writing/publishing plan within a handful of hours has been very satisfying. Highly recommend Intelligent Ink.”
Miriam Chancellor, Director of Naked Audience
“I’ve been working with Intelligent Ink – the book whisperers out of New Zealand. Their system for turning your voice into a book is next-level genius.
This crew? They’re sharpening me. Their wisdom is gold. And I’m bringing it all to the stage, the workshop, and the boardroom.”
Johnny Fimple, Founder of Resonate
"I often say to Christina at Intelligent Ink that this is our book, not mine. Even though I wrote it, Christina was absolutely fabulous as a partner to walk alongside me.... She was critical but in a really kind way. I really needed that person to challenge my thinking.”
Suzi McAlpine, Author of Beyond Burnout
“Verity has got this brilliant way of cutting through the clutter to help you uncover exactly the book you’re meant to write (even if you thought you already knew!). The session was eye-opening, energising and gave me clarity I didn’t even realise I was missing. I came away feeling inspired, and most importantly, ready to take action.”
Rachel Bourke, Founder of SalesSPACE
“Even when you're pushing the boundaries of traditional business writing, they're right there with you, helping make your vision reality. They're the real deal.”
Nathan Donaldson, CEO of Boost and Author of Unicorns Over Rainbows
Why is a book strategy important?
Planning your book well isn’t just about figuring out what you’re going to write. It’s about being strategic about the journey you’re taking readers on + the impact your book will have - for them and for you.
Cutting corners here increases costs later. In our experience, those who don’t go through a robust book strategy and planning process regret it when it comes time to edit – requiring 2-3x as many edits as those who put in the time and effort upfront. When you skip the plan, you spoil the draft. So don't regret it later in the process – start the journey off right.
